George Harrison, Eric Clapton, Duane Allman and Dave Mason played vintage Martin D35 acoustic guitar. Eric Clapton and Duane Allman gave this guitar to singer, songwriter and musician Bobby Whitlock on his 22nd birthday in March of 1970. Purchased in Miami, this guitar was used both by Eric Clapton and Duane Allman during the historic recording sessions of "Layla and Other Assorted Love Songs" (released November 1970) as well as by George Harrison and Dave Mason during Harrison's equally historic recording sessions of "All Things Must Pass", his first solo album since the break-up of The Beatles (also released November 1970). According to Whitlock the guitar can be clearly heard on the song "Thorn Tree In the Garden" from the Layla album. Whitlock's long association with Clapton began when he joined Clapton's band Delaney & Bonnie and Friends in 1968, leading to Whitlock's participation in the recording sessions for George Harrison's album "All Things Must Pass" in London, and the formation of Derek and the Dominos that year. Whitlock write or co-wrote eight of the Layla album fourteen tracks, including "Tell the Truth", "Bell Bottom Blues" and "Why Does Love Got to Be So Sad?". "Layla and Other Assorted Love Songs" was recorded over several sessions from August - October 1970 and then released November 9, 1970 while "All Things Must Pass", was recorded at the same time, from May to late October 1970 and then released on November 27, 1970. This guitar was originally sold in Sothebys New York, 1993. The guitar is accompanied by a signed letter of provenance from Bobby Whitlock clearly stating that George Harrsion played this guitar, as well as Eric Clapton, Duane Allman and Dave Mason. Also comes with a Gotta Have Rock & Roll Certificate of Authenticity.
