Soundgarden Signed Gibson SG Guitar Played by Chris Cornell.
Soundgarden band members Chris Cornell, Matt Cameron and Ben Shepherd have signed this Gibson guitar in a black felt tip pen.
The backstory of how the guitar got signed is as follows, per the consignor, “I was with the band at an event where there were some fans present. Chris Cornell was complaining loudly that fans were there. What’s the matter with that, I asked. They can’t get near you. We don’t like fans, Chris said, Fan’s are assholes. Who buys your records and pays money to see your concerts, I asked. “Fans,” he said, spitting the word out like it was a swear word. We don’t like to associate with them. I sat there as the band members signed the guitar, listening to Chris’ continued complaints. Even as he was complaining, he tuned the guitar strumming chords and playing a few riffs on it. The rest of the band members were as nice and friendly as could be, asking me questions about the city and for recommendations about a good place to eat.”
Provenance: From the collection of a former Music Executive. Lots 76 to 100 and Lots 499 to 803 in this auction are consigned by one vendor, who worked with and met various artists from 1985-1992. All the items were personally obtained by the vendor. This is the best in-person collection we have ever handled as an auction company.
