David Bowie 1990 Played & Band Signed Gibson Guitar During “Sound + Vision” Tour.

Offered here is an incredible Gibson guitar which was signed by David Bowie and his band members Adrian Belew, Erdal Kizilcay, Rick Fox and Michael Hodges in a silver sharpie. Bowie also wrote “Sound & Vision” on the bottom of the guitar.

The guitar was played by David Bowie on stage during the tour, however not in front of an actual audience. This was done at soundcheck before a concert. The story behind the guitar is incredible, per the consignor: “I met David at the 18,000 seat outdoor facility during his Sound & Vision Tour in 1990, in the middle of the afternoon. We sat on the stage and I opened the guitar case and handed him the guitar. He tuned it and started playing it. He didn’t speak for a good period of time. He just kept playing the guitar, occasionally singing along. I was transfixed. After somewhere around 30 - 45 minutes, he said, “I’m not going to sign this guitar, I’m going to buy it from you. (It was the exact model that he was playing in concert at the moment.) I said, I’ll make you a better deal. I’ll trade you even from any guitar you’ve ever played in concert - I don’t care how beat up it is. He smiled and told me he’d be right back. He walked to the back of the stage into the backstage area. He came back a few minutes later and said, my roadcrew isn’t here yet. Can you wait an hour? Sadly, I had to tell him I couldn’t because I had an important meeting I couldn't miss. He sighed and said, fine, I’ll sign it. Do you just want my signature or the whole band? I said, if it isn’t too much trouble, I’d love to have the whole band sign it. It was signed by David, Adrian Belew, Erdal Kizilcay, Rick Fox and Michael Hodges. David wrote “Sound & Vision on the bottom of the guitar.”

An incredible guitar that has been played and signed by David Bowie.
