Offered is a rare and very unusual 1914 Cracker Jack card example of Hall of Fame righthander Christy “The Big Train” Mathewson.

Unlike some kids who used to put their cards in bicycle spokes, this collector back at the turn of the last century took it upon himself to cut out the pitcher and only keep his body and a portion of the nameplate at the bottom. This makes the authentic card into an altered version. Cracker Jack produced back-to-back baseball card sets in 1914 and ‘15 and the older issue is considered to be three times as rare as its younger sibling. Here was one of the most desirable entries in the set: Christy Mathewson. It was released the same year as the last of 12 consecutive seasons in which Matheson registered 20 or more wins. Though cut out from its original 2 ¼” x 3” frame, the altered card remains in remarkable shape.

Authentication: The card has been evaluated as Authentic Altered (AA) by CGC and also comes with a Gotta Have Rock and Roll Certificate of Authenticity
Cracker Jack Christy Mathewson 1914 #88 (CGC Authentic)
