Handwritten signed free franked letter from Vice President Richard Mentor Johnson (in Office 1837-1841, d. 1850) to James Kirke Paulding, Secretary of the Navy. Dated from the Senate Chamber, February 17, 1840. 8 X 10 four-sided stationery. Johnson served under President Martin van Buren and was the only vice president elected by the United States Senate under provisions of the Twelfth Amendment. Johnson began and ended his political career serving in the Kentucky House of Representatives. Very good condition. Comes with a James Spence Authentication (JSA) Letter of Authenticity and a Gotta Have Rock & Roll Certificate of Authenticity.
