This is Elvis Presley’s personally owned 1960 “Kenpo Karate” book filled with many of Elvis’ handwritten annotations and underscored passages throughout the book, including the book’s cover. The book was given to Elvis by the author, his close personal friend Ed Parker. There are varying theories on how Elvis came up with the TCB lightning bolt and given the lightning bolts on the book’s dustcover and Elvis’ numerous annotations referring to lighting, such as the two he handwrote on the cover, “This is good, one must be lighting fast” and “Strike with lighting speed,” as well as his many underscored passages, it is most likely that it was from this book that Elvis got the idea for the emblem. With an inscription to Elvis from Ed Parker at the front, the book comes with a letter of provenance from Ed Parker on his Kenpo Karate School letterhead. Book measures 6.25 x .75 x 9.25.
