These are the official documents concerning Jimi Hendrix's arrest in Sweden, January 1968, after destroying his room in the Hotel Opalen in Gothenburg. Comprising twenty four sheets in Swedish and one with English text, Hendrix has signed one page. The booklet measures 22.75cm x 29.75cm (9 inches x 11.75 inches).The folder is in very good condition, the contents are in near mint condition. The contents include the protective cover from Gothenburg Magistrates Court which has the typed name of the prosecutor Bengt Kviele and the defendant musician James Marshall Hendrix, dated 1968. Also included are detailed reports regarding the events surrounding the arrest including details leading up to the incident, detailed witness statements in Swedsh from the porter at the hotel, Jimi’s own statement of events, as well as Mitch Mitchell’s, a list of items that Jimi damaged or destroyed, legal papers with personal information on Jimi and the prohibition for Jimi to leave Sweden which is signed by Jimi in blue ballpoint pen and is dated January 4, 1968. On January 3rd 1968, The Jimi Hendrix Experience landed at Torslanda airport, Gothenburg, Sweden for a brief four-date tour of Sweden and Denmark. The band checked into to the Hotel Opalen and later in the evening went out to a local night club, Klubb Karl, returning to the hotel at around 2 a.m. When they arrived back at the hotel a number of friends were waiting for them and they went off to Mitch's room. At around 4am a guest on the floor below complained to Per Magnusson, the night receptionist, about a disturbance in the room above. Magnusson went to investigate letting himself into room 623 using his universal staff key. On the other side of the door was total devastation and Hendrix was laid out on the bed in a pool of blood as he had broken the hotel window with his right hand. The police were then called and five officers arrested Hendrix. He was then charged with criminal damage and taken to hospital to have his hand attended to. The police put an immediate travel ban on Hendrix and ordered him to report to the police station every day at 2 p.m. until his court appearance on January 16th 1968 when Hendrix received a fine of 3200 Swedish Crowns.
