This is Elvis Presley's cape that was custom-made for him by his designer Bill Belew for his legendary "Aloha from Hawaii" concert in Hawaii on January 14, 1973. This is the original cape made by Belew for Elvis to wear on stage so that when Elvis came on stage he would be "hidden" behind the long cape, and at the end of the Space Odyssey Elvis would drop the cape and face the audience, dramatically revealing himself to the waiting crowd. When Belew arrived in Hawaii with this magnificent 5 foot long cape, Elvis tried it on and almost tumbled over backwards as he tried to walk. It was then decided that for the concert itself a shorter version of the design should be used, and Belew only had 24 hours to make a new cape. This original cape was then sent back to Graceland and remained there in its archives until the charity auction held in 1999. It was originally sold for $189,999 at this auction help by Guernsey's. Very good condition. Accompanied by picture of Elvis wearing the second cape and a Certificate of Authenticty from Greg Howell, Exhibition & Collections Manager, Elvis Presley Enterprises, Graceland. Also comes with a Gotta Have Rock & Roll™ Certificate of Authenticity.
