Swatch, .5" x .875", taken from a U.S. Flag that was captured by the Confederates as it flew over Fort Sumter when it was surrendered by Major Robert Anderson in April 1861, marking the official beginning of the American Civil War. Encapsulated by CAG, measuring 2.375'' x 3.375''.

The Battle of Fort Sumter was the bombardment of Fort Sumter near Charleston, South Carolina by the South Carolina militia. It ended with the surrender by the United States Army, beginning the American Civil War. The Civil War would last for four years and cost the lives of over 620,000 Americans.
