The Beatles “A Hard Day’s Night” 8/13/1964 Movie Ticket Stub (PSA EX 5).
Graded EX 5 by PSA (76530280).
Presented is a ticket stub to the Aug. 13, 1964, 7:00 pm showing of the Beatles' film A Hard Day's Night at the New Royal Theatre in San Francisco, California. At the time of this film's premiere, the Beatles' debut studio album Please Please Me was only one year old. Such was the meteoric rise of rock's biggest band, which released this film in correspondence with a tie-in LP of the same title that featured the film's soundtrack on side A and a selection of new tracks on side B. The film captures the band at the height of Beatlemania; the plot—featuring the Beatles over a 36-hour period as they dodge crazed fans, dogged reporters, and prudish authority figures in order to perform on a televised variety show—was in part influenced by the band's early 1964 trip to America, which included a seminal performance on The Ed Sullivan Show. The film (and its accompanying album) was a huge commercial and critical success, and remains an important document of the band at the height of "Beatlemania." The success spawned two more fictionalized Beatles films: 1965's Help! and 1967's Magical Mystery Tour (the band's input on 1968's Yellow Submarine was minimal). The band's fame continued to rise, resulting in a string of the most iconic albums ever recorded and concluding with a fairly acrimonious, well-publicized breakup in 1970.
The offered ticket stub features a charming die-cut exterior that traces along the heads of George, Paul, and Ringo; a light degree of peripheral wear is discernible along the margins, and two spots of transparent discoloration are visible on the reverse.
