The Beatles Signed Petition For Mick Jagger to Star in "A Clockwork Orange" (Caiazzo)
All four Beatles have boldly and beautifully signed this petition for Mick Jagger to star in the classic film "A Clockwork Orange". Also signed by Marianne Faithfull.
The black-bordered document with typewritten text, Dear Mr Southern, We, The Undersigned, Do Hereby Protest With Extreme Vehemence As Well As Shattered Illusions (In You) The Preference Of David Hemmings Above ******Mick Jagger****** In the Role Of Alex In 'The Clockwork Orange'..., signed in various pens by, amongst others, the Beatles, Marianne Faithfull, James Fox, Peter and Jann Blake and Robert Fraser (signing as Strawberry ''Bob''), with background details.
Screenwriter Terry Southern was made aware of the novel by Anthony Burgess by photographer Michael Cooper and it was also Cooper who prompted this petition. Cooper felt that Mick Jagger should play the lead role but, with David Hemmings' success in 'Blow Up', it was suggested that he (Hemmings) should star instead. Southern's screenplay of the book was rejected by the British Board of Film Censors and so, having lost the backing of Paramount, Southern gave the book to Stanley Kubrick.
Dimensions:, the entire piece measures 12.75 x 7.
Condition: Overall very good condition. The petition has been folded and is taped along the verso in the top fold, under the typewritten words, and at the fold between the Beatles signatures and the other signatures. Shows wear from being folded and opened over the years but the Beatles signatures are very strong and clearly legible as is the typed message.
Authentication: Authenticated by Beatles handwriting expert Frank Caiazzo. Upon request, Gotta Have Rock and Roll will help facilitate the winning bidder in obtaining a Letter of Authenticity from Mr. Caiazzo. Also comes with a Certificate of Authenticity, and a Gotta Have Rock and Roll Certificate of Authenticity.
