The Beatles John Lennon & Paul McCartney 1962 Cavern Club Stage Used Brushed Steel Red Reslo Microphone.

Offered here is an incredible piece of Beatles history, an actual microphone used by them during their performances in the Cavern Club.

The Beatles gave more live performances at the Cavern Club than at any other venue - 292 to be exact. It was at the underground club on Matthew Street that the group perfected their stage presence over thousands of songs performed and hundreds of hours spent on stage. The group often used the club as a rehearsal space as well, working through many of their early compositions. Musical history was made at the Cavern, and now Gotta Have Rock and Roll is honored to offer this microphone.

At the time most Liverpool groups did not use their own sound equipment, instead utilizing the PA setups which the venues would provide. The sound equipment for the Cavern was provided and maintained by a local company called McBain's Sound Service Company.

Nearly every photo of the Beatles at the Cavern shows the group with Reslo microphones on stage. They were ideally suited to the group's vocal sound - two singers could face into either side of a Reslo ribbon mic, which fully amplified the vocals from both sides. Reslos were also dynamic enough to amplify from a distance, which could allow the drummer to continue to play and to sing at the same time without having to lean deeply into the microphone. At the Cavern the Beatles would have two microphones at front - the first for the song's lead singer with the second for the other two frontmen to dramatically add face-to-face harmony - and the third microphone at rear for the drummer. In addition to the Beatles, many the other Merseyside groups from the era who played at the Cavern used the club's PA: Gerry and the Pacemakers, The Searchers, The Big Three, Kingsize Taylor and the Dominoes, Rory Storm and the Hurricanes, Billy J. Kramer and the Dakotas, and on and on and on!

Provenance: Obtained directly from the McBain's Sound Service Company in 1985. This microphone was returned to the company in 1964 to be replaced by new and improved sound equipment. The owner purchased it directly from the company in 1985.

Good, stage used condition.

Authentication: Real Game Used (RGU) Letter of Authenticity, a Copy of a Letter of Provenance and a Gotta Have Rock & Roll Certificate of Authenticity.
