The Beatles 1962 M.V. Royal Iris Original Concert Ticket – a Concert Ticket From The Week Ringo Starr Joined the Band.

The M.V. Royal Iris was a vessel that cruised the Mersey River in Liverpool, featuring live music and dancing. The Beatles performed on the Royal Iris more than once, including on August 24, 1962, just six days after Ringo Starr joined the band to make them the “Fab Four.” The event was sponsored by the Capenhurst Apprentice Association and was dubbed the River Boat Shuffle! The Beatles were only beginning to headline such events and were billed as “Merseyside’s Top Group.” They were joined this evening by The Four J’s and the Zodiacs.

This elaborate, deckled-edge ticket is complete, measuring approximately 4.5 x 3.5 inches. This very ticket (with unique ink smudge on the lower right corner) actually appeared on the official Beatles website in their collection of photographs of interesting memorabilia.

Though this performance is not recorded in Mark Lewisohn’s The Complete Beatles Chronicle, it is reflected on the band’s itinerary mailed to then-drummer Pete Best. The itinerary is pictured in Brian Southall’s book, The Beatles in 100 Objects. Lewisohn advised the consignor that because this event was a private, club dance, it would not have been publicly advertised, and that is why he was not aware of it at the time of publication of his book.

Concert tickets for The Beatles this early after Ringo joined are extremely rare, making this one of the earliest items existing from the very first week after the band was fully formed as John, Paul, George and Ringo.

Good condition.

Authentication: Gotta Have Rock and Roll Certificate of Authenticity.
