This is Sitting Bull's personally owned and used war club. The club is displayed with various Indian spearheads and two vintage trading cards. The war club, measuring 26" in length is comprised of a heavy rock measuring approximately 7 x 4.5 x 3 that is attached to a thick leather bound stick with Indian beading. The war club was purchased at an auction of there estate of Agnes C. O'Rourke on April 26, 1992 in Yorktown Heights, New York. The war club had been in the family since John O'Rourke, Agnes' father-in-law, operated a general store in Mandan, North Dakota with a partner named McGillick. The family has an old ledger from the store, and according to Mr. O'Rourke, Sitting Bull would from time to time come in to the store to ask for a dollar saying "Dollar one, John" and Mr. O'Rourke would always give him the dollar. After John O'Rourke died in the 40's, his second wife remarried, and upon her death in the 1960's, the estate was distributed through a sale and which point Agnes O'Rouke acquired the club. According to the family, Sitting Bull had either given the war club to John O'Rourke, or sold it to him for one dollar. The war cub comes with several vintage arrowheads and two Sitting Bull trading cards. Accompanied by a notarized letter of provenance from James O'Rourke, Agnes O'Rourke's son and an original copy of the news article announcing the Agnes O'Rourke estate sale, with a description of the items to be auctioned, including the war club. The display measures 33.5 x 18.5 x 5. Very good condition. Also comes with a Gotta Have Rock & Roll™ Certificate of Authenticity.
