Senator John Kennedy Original 1957 Campaign Contribution Check.
A check made out to Senator John Kennedy in the amount of $1 from Dr. Raymond Doherty, and dated September 12, 1957. The check is endorsed on the back, with Kennedy's signature deemed secretarial. The check also bears two additional signed endorsements and is stamped Financial Clerk U.S. Senate. We believe this to possibly be a campaign check, due to the amount, while Kennedy was in the U.S. Senate.
John F. Kennedy was elected to the U.S. Senate and served as the junior senator for Massachusetts from 1953 to 1960. While in the Senate, Kennedy published his book, Profiles in Courage, which won a Pulitzer Prize. Kennedy ran in the 1960 presidential election.
