Historical 1926 broadside promotes the Foot Ball game between the “Cleveland Panthers vs Chicago Bulls with Five Former Notre Dame Stars” played October 24 at White Sox Park. Two players are pictured on this incredibly rare broadside, Eddie Anderson, Notre Dame, Captain Chicago Bulls and Johnnie Mohardt, Notre Dame, Coach. It further teases , “The Cleveland Panthers are one of the strongest clubs in the American Football League, being undefeated this season and numbering stars such as those eight listed by name. It further advertises where to purchase tickets for the game. Significantly, this was the ONLY season of the FIRST American Football League. The Bulls, led by their quarterback Joe Sternaman, whom sportswriter Grantland Rice declared was “the strongest little man I ever met,” and who was also the owner and head coach of the Bulls, delivered the Panthers first defeat by a score of 19-12. As a matter of fact, Sternaman scored 52 of the 88 points scored by the Bulls all season. This fledging league and first AFL challenger of the NFL folded at the end of the season with the Philadelphia Quakers declared league champions. Some obvious wear about the perimeter but in good condition for such an historical surviving professional football relic sure to please the most advanced collector. 7.5 X 10.5.
