History was made in this vintage, tufted leather armchair that once belonged to Paul McCartney that was first located at the Beatles' Abbey Road Studio and later at Paul's home studio in London, in which he wrote and recorded many songs while sitting in it. The chair’s unique history is chronicled in a two-page letter from Paul which accompanies it written to Heavyweight Boxing Champion Evander Holyfield. While making a donation of personal items for a charity auction sponsored by Evander, Paul makes the chair a personal gift to Holyfield for use in his office. In his letter to Evander made on his stationary dated July, 1998, McCartney first writes thanking Evander for his beautiful gift and kind letter to his wife Linda (who had just passed away weeks earlier) and encloses the letter with his donations and gift of the chair. McCartney writes, “…I believe in the growth and reinforcement of today’s youth and the spiritual direction in which you live your life. Myself and so many others as an outstanding human being and a great sportsman respect you.” Paul provides a brief history of his first meeting John Lennon in answer to Evander’s questions and then goes into great detail about the chair, “The leather chair was given to me as a gift and has been around the (Abbey-Road) studio and then my home studio in London for years. I have written & recorded many songs in it. I remember tussling with John in it during writing and recording ‘Hey Jude’” The puncture in the chairs left arm is a direct result from John’s mighty correction pencil UN-like you I lost that fight. The top of the chair was used by Ringo, looking for a beat, other song’s such as, “Live and Let Die,” “My Love,” “Hi Hi.” “Maybe I’m Amazed,” “Band on the Run,” “Venus and Mars” and “Michelle…(with a hand notation) are a few song’s I remember writing from the chair…The chair has brought me great ‘LUCK’ in my musical career, I could not think of a better person to own it…” McCartney concludes, “I look forward to meeting with you, as soon as I get a moment my heart is still shipwrecked and work is impossible for me at this time. Thank you for your prayers,” “Best wishes to the Champion! CHEERS!” and signed by McCartney’s assistant, “Paul,” with an added line in the assistant’s hand, “Evander, thanks for the beautiful gift and flowers!” in black pen. Guinness World Records described McCartney as the "most successful composer and recording artist of all time", with 60 gold discs and sales of over 100 million albums and 100 million singles, and as the "most successful songwriter" in United Kingdom chart history. As evident here, this chair played an important role in McCartney's record success. Very good condition. In addition to Paul's letter to Evander, the chair also comes with a Gotta Have Rock & Roll™ Certificate of Authenticity.
