This original prescription for medicinal liquor (Whiskey), dated March 20, 1926, is a true American historical artifact from the failed attempt to legislate social behavior through Prohibition. The 18th Amendment was passed in 1919 as a measure to reduce drinking but failed due to a lack of enforcement. It led to an increase in illegal bootleg liquor, the opening of large numbers of speakeasies and a prolific rise in organized crime from gangsters such as Al Capone. By some estimates the prescription of medicinal, nearly pure, alcohol increased more than 400% during Prohibition. This lasting memento of that time is 6.75 X 6 in size and the Rx is written on an official Treasury Department U.S. Prohibition Service Form. The name and address of the recipient of the prescription is handwritten on the left side. Prohibition was finally repealed in 1933. Comes with a Gotta Have Rock & Roll Certificate of Authenticity.
