From the Farley Granger Collection. Montgomery Clift has signed this love letter that he typed to actor William LeMassena in black ink. The letter is dated July 21, 1956, only two months after the serious car accident that left Clift's face somewhat altered forever, leaving behind his almost angelic, too beautiful, features. Clift writes that he is "a great deal better now" and talks about being in the dentists chair for what felt like months, and theat he know had dentures. He goes on to say that they start shooting in a few days and writes "God help Metro." Clift's accident occurred during the shooting of his film "Raintree Country" with Elizabeth Taylor, and this apparently refers to them starting shooting again. It was Taylor's house that Clift had just left when he got into the car accident. He ends the letter by saying "I'm so fond of you. Love Monty." The 7 x 9 letter is accompanied by a news clipping of Clift and Taylor on their way down to Natchez, Miss for filming of "Raintree Country" (Clift refers to going to Natchez in the letter). Also comes with the original envelope with Clift's East 61st Street, New York City return address. The letter is in very good condition, the envelope has been torn on the left side.
