For the advanced Mickey Mantle collector, this is perhaps the most appealing signed photograph that there could be. Offering one of the youngest photographs of Mickey Mantle and likely his earliest known signature is this original 4th Grade class photograph, the verso of which has been pencil inscribed in Mickey Mantle’s young 4th grade script with the names of all of his classmates including his boyish signature. Perhaps the most fun is picking out which youngster is Mickey Mantle from the students appearing on this 7 X 5 original photograph. (Mickey Mantle is pictured in the bottom row, second from the right). Most valued however is his remarkable signature signed as an 8- or 9-year-old on the verso (left column, fifth from the bottom) along with his handwritten names of his classmates. It is also highly likely that this photograph belonged to Mickey Mantle as well, explaining all of the names written in his hand and perhaps explaining the hearts drawn about the name of one girl and another near the name of his teacher. What young boy did not experience a crush on an early grade school teacher. Regardless of some obvious condition flaws including nipped corners and other wear and tear, we are sure true collectors share in our delight to view this rare and most likely unique Mantle signed photograph along with our great pleasure in offering it to the collecting public.
