No doubt very few of these exist; a primitive Welcome Home Program from a banquet honoring Mickey Mantle hosted by the public schools and Lions Club from his boyhood home, Commerce Oklahoma on October 17, 1952 vintage signed by Mickey Mantle and his New York Yankees teammate Allie Reynolds, who also hailed from Oklahoma. Pencil signed by both on the cover picturing Mickey Mantle, with Mantle inscribing and signing in his rookie era penmanship, “To Judy-a Pal Mickey Mantle.” Just ten days prior, the Yankees defeated the Brooklyn Dodgers in the World Series with Mantle hitting a home run in the seventh deciding game and pitcher Allie Reynolds earning the win. The young 20-year-old Mantle who would earn the nickname “The Commerce Comet” surely received a heroes welcome when returning to his hometown where he was a star athlete playing baseball, basketball and football while attending Commerce High School. Few attendees knew at the time that they were honoring the player that would become one of the most iconic figures in baseball history.
