Marilyn Monroe's vintage gold clutch purse that she owned and used during the production of her famed film "The Seven Year Itch."
The gold clutch is bedazzled on the front with small faux pearls and rhinestones and closes with a snap.
Dimensions: 5 x 9
Provenance: The purse originally came from the collection of a man who worked at several Hollywood movie studios, including 20th Century Fox, starting in the 1940s. He worked as both an on set assistant as well as an assistant in the prop and wardrobe departments. According to his daughter, he posed for photographs with some of the biggest Hollywood stars that he worked with on many films including Elizabeth Taylor, Marilyn Monroe, Betty Grable, and many more. He was always looking for souvenirs on the movie lots and over time he accrued a large collection of items that had been left behind, including props, photographs, movie posters and items personally owned and used by the stars.
Marilyn left this purse behind while she was filming "The Seven Year Itch" and this gentleman brought it home and saved it as part of his collection. After he passed away the collection was inherited by his daughter and she subsequently asked antiques dealer and appraiser Jay Baxter who has worked in the field for the past 20 years and is a graduate of CAGA, to authenticate and appraise the collection. Baxter subsequently purchased some items from the collection, including this purse.
Condition: Very Good, with some slight staining on the inside lining, including a touch of red lipstick - most likely Monroe's!
Authenticity: Letter of authenticity from Jay Baxter and a Gotta Have Rock and Roll Certificate of Authenticity.
