Malcolm X Original Mugshot and Prison Report on Drug Use.
Malcolm X, born Malcolm Little, had a rough childhood, in living in a series of foster homes or with relatives after his father's death and his mother's hospitalization. He committed various crimes, being sentenced to 8 to 10 years in prison in 1946 for larceny and burglary. Offered here is the original prison mug shot taken on February 28, 1946, with the serial number 2843 stamped on the verso. The mug shot is attached to an original, very detailed typed prison report on his history of drug use. It was during this stint in prison that Malcolm X joined the Nation of Islam, adopting the name Malcolm X to symbolize his unknown African ancestral surname while discarding "the white slavemaster name of 'Little'", and after his parole in 1952, he quickly became one of the organization's most influential leaders. He was the public face of the organization for 12 years, advocating Black empowerment.
Dimensions: The mug shot measures approximately 3 in x 5 in, and the report measures 8.5 in x 11 in.
Condition: The mug shot is in very good condition, the report is in good condition with some small tears along the top edge and the right edge, not affecting the typed print.
