Lynyrd Skynyrd Rare Opening Act Original 1973 Who Quadrophenia Tour Concert Poster .
A MUST-HAVE FOR ANY LYNYRD SKYNRD FAN! A rare original concert poster for Lynyrd Skynrd to be touring with The Who as their opening act on the 1973 Quadrophenia Tour. Although Lynyrd Skynyrd were not the opening band, this is really their poster with MCA Records amd Al Kooper announcing that the band would be joining the Who on tour - quite a coup for the up and coming band. MCA offered after seeing the band in action, and Alex Hodges of the Paragon Agency (he started with his brothers), representing the band jumped at the chance - and of course the rest is rock and roll history - as only rock history can be - success and heartache for Skynyrd.
The poster features the names of both bands, and states that Skynyrd will be appearing as the ONLY opening act for the Who on their North American Tour (November - December). The poster has a black and white picture of the entire orginal Skynrd band members in the center, and gives the tour dates at which they'll appear. For Lynyrd Skynyrd fans this is a real gem for your collection - it's evident wear making it all the more fitting for this Southern genre band which started in small venues in the South, a real working band. At the height of their success, the band's luck ran out in the worst of possible ways when on October 20, 1977, their chartered airplane crashed, killing lead singer Ronnie Van Zant, guitarist Steve Gaines, and backup singer Cassie Gaines; and seriously injuring the rest of the band. The band did reform in 1987 and have been active to the present day.
Dimensions: 10 in x 17 in.
Condition: Very good vintage condition with some water stains, and a small hole at the bottom. The back of the poster has a brownish discoloration that could be from being sun damage but does not really affect the front.
