Gregg Allman & Duane Allman 1970 Owned, Stage Worn and Hand Engraved Belt

This belt was worn and engraved by Greg Allman from 1970-1973. The belt has engravings from some of his songs from The Allman Brothers Band “Eat a Peach” album & his solo “Laid Back” Album.

Provenance: Consignor’s father acquired this belt in DC when the Allman Brothers Band played with the Grateful Dead on June 9, 1973 (RFK Stadium). He went to Gregg’s hotel and gave him a painting, and Gregg gave him his belt and said this was a ticket to get into the ranch in Macon, GA.

Gregg Allman’s 1970 engraved song belt has symbolic images representing Greg’s songs that he wrote on his solo “Laid Back” Album and The Allman Brothers Band “Eat a Peach” album. The belts hand engravings are by Gregg Allman and were engraved during the recording/writing process in 1970-1973 from these albums.

On the belt are a variety of images including the Eat a Peach Mushroom, Q of hearts from the laid back album, and others. Dimensions: 38 in length, buckles measure approx. 2.5 x 2 in.

On the belt, Gregg has engraved these symbols: The Peace Symbol, Egyptian Cross, Moon with Mustache and Star (In reference to his “Dreams” song, about Duane Allman), Music Notes, Queen of Hearts (In reference to his “Queen of Hearts” song), Mushroom (In reference to “Eat a Peach” album) and finally the “Sun” symbol with the word “mom”.

Gregg Allman can be seen wearing the belt throughout the early 70s, as well as reference in books to the belt being used for other practices

”Cocaine was such a part of the culture of Miami, it was a given. Fellow Domino Bobby Whitlock has said that it was so abundant and strong that Duane and Eric ended up flushing a quantity of it down the toilet at the hotel, trying to release themselves from the excess of it. (The night he came home from the sessions, Little Linda watched Duane sit at the kitchen table in the Big House prying the silver disks off his Concho belt. "What are you doing? Don't take it apart; you'll never get it back together" she said. He smiled up at her like a little kid, and slid a little bundle of powder from behind the silver decoration and held it up between her two fingers with a wink.” Ramada Inn, September 5 1970.

Both Duane and Gregg wore this belt, with Duane even doing cocaine off it! This is the ONLY opportunity to get something so historical and personal from both Gregg and Duane Allman.

Authentication: Letter of Provenance and a Gotta Have Rock and Roll Certificate of Authenticity.
