An original, typed letter from Marilyn Monroe sent to the troops at the Thule Air Base in Greenland, during the Korean War. Although not dated, we can assume this letter was sent in December 1963 as Monroe apologizes to the men that she can't be there to celebrate New Year's Eve with them and we know that she subsequently did visit the troops in February 1954 for her historic performance in a show titled "Anything Goes" to troop audiences totaling over 100,000 troops over 4 days. In the letter, Monroe tells the troops she cannot come for New Year's because she is sick and her doctor advised her not to. She says that as soon as she's able she'll come see them any time they can "persuade Secretary Talbot to give me a seat on a plane, to do a show for you, to meet you all and to tell you I think you're the best men in the world." She ends the letter with, "I love you all. Happy New Year. Marilyn Monroe". The letter was most probably read to the troops and although she couldn't make it to be with them, they undoubtably appreciated that she reached out to tell them how sorry she was and how much she appreciated them. The Secretary Talbot refers to Henry Talbot who was the U.S. Secretary of the Air Force during the Korean War. Marilyn. Of course Marilyn was good on her word, and overcoming her stage fright, she visited and performed for the troops in February, in one of the most iconic moments of her storied career. The typed vintage letter is in good/fair condition. Although it bears stains and a tear in the lower left corner, all of the print is fully legible. Comes with a Gotta Have Rock & Roll Certificate of Authenticity.
