John Lennon & Paul McCartney Signed Billy Kramer "I Call Your Name/Bad To Me" 45 Record Sleeve.
This Parlophone record sleeve for the singles "I Call Your Name" and "Bad to Me" was signed by its songwriters John Lennon and Paul McCartney, as well as the recording artist Billy J. Kramer and Tony Mansfield (Billy Kramer recorded with The Dakotas, and Mansfield was a member of the band). Signed in blue ballpoint pen.
In 1963, Brian Epstein, who was managing Billy J. Kramer, made the Dakotas an offer to become Kramer's backing band, which they accepted. Epstein insisted the name was "Billy J Kramer with the Dakotas", not "...and...". The group and Billy J Kramer then went to Hamburg to perfect their act. Billy Kramer and The Dakotas scored hits with several Lennon–McCartney compositions never recorded by the Beatles, among them the UK number one "Bad to Me" (1963). Kramer and the Dakotas had a further UK chart-topper in 1964 with "Little Children" and achieved U.S. success as part of the British Invasion. The B Side "I Call Your Name" was released as a Beatles song however, Lennon, with the help of McCartney, wrote the song prior to the formation of the Beatles, and in 1963, he gave it to Billy J. Kramer of The Dakotas, another Liverpool band who were signed to Parlophone by George Martin. It would be released as a Beatles song in 1964.
