The item offered for auction is a boxed audio reel-to-reel master tape of “Give Piece A Chance” & “Remember Love” by John Lennon. It is the one made by Andre Perry for demonstration to John Lennon after they had recorded “Give Peace A Chance” at the Montreal “Bed-In” on May 31 1969. After the recording in the hotel room, Perry took the 4-track Master back to his studio, transferred it to 8-track, and added effects and voices on 1 June 1969. He then made a stereo copy of the amended recording and presented it to John Lennon on 2 June for approval. This is that tape. With the Andre Perry Studio logo on the box front, the handwritten text on the rear reads “Recorded May 31” and “First heard 2 June 1969”. Track details are hand written on the inside of the box. On the reel for “Give Peace A Chance” there is a short conversation, John Lennon with someone else, before the full Lennon count-in of 1-2 , 1-2-3-4. None of this is on any released version to our knowledge. The length also differs to that released at 6 min 36 seconds; it is considerably longer than the released version at 4 mins 53 secs. On the reel for “Remember Love” the original recording is shorter than that released. On this tape it is 3 mins 07 secs, the released version was 4 mins 03 seconds. An incredible piece of John Lennon history. Comes with a Gotta Have Rock & Roll Certificate of Authenticity.
