General John J. Pershing signed letter typed on his stationery dated February 14, 1942 to Brigadier William G. Harris The Salvation Army on the subject of visiting Pittsburgh to hear General Evangeline Booth (Salvation Army) speak. Pershing was Commander of the American Expeditionary Forces on the Western Front during World War I and was mentor to many Generals who served in World War II including Dwight D. Eisenhower, Omar Bradley, George S. Patton and Douglas MacArthur.
