This is a signed photograph of John Forbes Nash Jr., the real life “mathematical genius” who was the subject of the biography “A Beautiful Mind” published in 1998 and the 2001 film by the same name directed by Ron Howard and starring Russell Crowe.
Nash is recognized for his fundamental contributions to game theory, real life algebraic geometry, differential geometry, and partial differential equations; Nash and fellow game theorists John Harsanyi and Reinhard Selten were awarded the 1994 Nobel Memorial Prize in Economics and in 2015 he and Louis Nirenberg were awarded the Abel Prize for their contributions to the field of partial differential equations.
After graduating in 1948, with both a B.S. and M.S. in mathematics from Carnegie Mellon University, Nash accepted a fellowship to Princeton University , where he pursued further graduate studies in mathematics and sciences and earned a PhD. Nash also worked at MIT (Massachusetts Institute of Technology) and at the RAND Corporation.
Nash is recognized for generating a labyrinth of work in the fields of mathematics, cryptography and economics.
Although Nash’s mental illness manifested earlier, Nash was first hospitalized for it in 1959, and in 1995 said that he did not realize his full potential due to 30 years of mental illness.
Nash and his second wife passed away in 2015 in a car accident while returning from the trip during which he received the Abel Prize (Nash is the only person to receive both the Nobel Prize in Economics and the Abel Prize).
Photograph measures 4 X 7. Very good condition.
