Janis Joplin and all four members of Big Brother & The Holding Company, David Getz, James Gurley, Sam Andrew and Peter Albin have signed the signature page to their original first contract with Columbia Records, dated February 1, 1968. Also signed by Columbia Records President Clive Davis. This historic document marks the turning point in the band's career as they were becoming not just darlings of the San Francisco scene but would soon reach worldwide recognition with their 1968 album Cheap Thrills. That album, their first one released after signing with Columbia, is considered one of the masterpieces of the psychedelic sound of San Francisco, reaching number one on the Billboard charts and ranking number 338 in Rolling Stone's the 500 greatest albums of all time.
