Singer songwriter Janis Joplin was one of the most successful and widely known rock performers of her era. In 1967, she rose to prominence following an appearance at the Monterey Pop Festival, where she was the lead singer of a then little-known San Francisco psychedelic rock band Big Brother and the Holding Company. She performed at the Woodstock festival in 1969 and had five singles reach the US Billboard Hot 100, including her renowned song, “Me and Bobby McGee." Unfortunately, like other rock performers from her era, Joplin died of a heroin overdose in 1970. She was just 27 years old.

Featured here is a black-and-photo photo of Joplin performing with what appears to be maracas in her left hand. She signed the photo on the right side with what appears to be a red ink pen. She personalized the message “To Phil IOUs” before signing her name. The signature has faded over time but remains legible.

Authentication: Roger Epperson Authentication Ltd. (REAL) Letter of Authenticity, a James Spence Authentication (JSA) Letter of Authenticity, and a Gotta Have Rock and Roll Certificate of Authenticity.
