A group of six (6) typed letters signed (TLS) by Harold C. Urey (1893-1981) on the stationery of Columbia University (City of New York) Department of Chemistry, all addressed to fellow chemistry Professor John A. Timm. Urey was awarded the Nobel Prize in 1934 for his work on isotopes and discovery of deuterium. Urey played a significant role in the development of the Atomic bomb and is well recognized for his theories on the development of organic life from non-living matter. Letters are signed in full “Harold C.Urey” unless noted otherwise dating from September 17, 1929, May 28, 1931 (Signed “Harold”), March 18, 1936, April 3, 1936, May 11, 1936 (Signed “Harold”), and October 2, 1936 (Signed “Harold”).
