A nice collection of thirty-seven letters signed by First Lady Eleanor Roosevelt or First Lady Mamie Eisenhower. Letters typed on Executive stationery are noted. Twelve letters are signed by Eleanor Roosevelt (all but one with her full signature) wife of President Franklin D. Roosevelt whose term as President ran from 1933-1945. Twenty-five letters are signed by Mamie Eisenhower (all but four are signed in full signature either signed Mamie Eisenhower or Mamie Doud Eisenhower) wife of President Dwight D. Eisenhower whose term ran from 1953-1961. Letters are as follows: Eleanor Roosevelt – 1932 Executive Mansion Albany with mailing envelope, 1933 White House (WH) stationery, 1934 WH stationery signed “Eleanor R.”, 1935 WH stationery, 1937 WH stationery (2 pages), 1949, 1954, 1959, 1959 with mailing envelope, 1959, 1960, and another 1960 letter signed with additional salutation. Mamie (Doud) Eisenhower – 1952 with mailing envelope signed “Mamie”, 1952, 1953 WH stationery, 1953 WH stationery, 1954 WH stationery, 1955 WH stationery, 1955 WH stationery, 1955 signed with additional salutation, “He was deeply touched by your letter which I read to him at luncheon yesterday”, 1955, 1955 WH stationery, 1956 WH stationery, 1956 WH stationery with additional salutation, “we certainly did enjoy your visit with us at Walter Reed – Your stories gave us all “laughs” which we really needed – M”, 1956 WH stationery, 1957 WH stationery with additional salutation “P.S. Enjoying a long weekend at out Farm with all the snow it looks and seems very ‘Xmasy’-M”, 1959 WH stationery, 1959 WH stationery, 1960 WH stationery, 1964, 1965, 1966 signed “Mamie E”, 1966, 1968, 1971, 1971, and 1972 with additional salutation “P.S. sun shining to-day- seems good after the dark days we have had – M.” Sizes vary, with most letters measuring about 6 X 9. Condition varies also with some letters discolored and a couple with small tears or trimmed letterhead. Overall good condition.
