Elvis Presley wore this red jacket, black silk shirt and black wool pants in his MGM hit movie “Viva Las Vegas” as well as after the movie for many months. The red “bolero” style jacket has a one button closure on the front, one button on each cuff and two accent button on the decorative strap that goes across the back of the jacket. The jacket bears a “Sy Devore Hollywood Las Vegas Palm Springs” label on the inside of the inner left chest and there is an “MGM Studio Culver” City label on the inside of the inner chest pocket, with “Elvis Presley” handwritten in black ink. Also handwritten on the label in black ink is the production number “1812”, the number ‘2” and the size “42”. The accompanying long sleeve black silk shirt with button panel front bears the “Jerry Rothschild Beverly Hills” label with “Elvis Presley” handwritten on the label. The black pants composed of slim tapered wool have the Sy Devore label with Elvis’ name and size typed on it. There is a faint “M-G-M” stamp on this label with a date of 7-1-63. Inside, on the pants’ waistband, there is an M-G-M “Culver City” label with “Elvis Presley” handwritten in black ink, with the production number “1812”, waist “32” and length “31 ¼”. The pants feature a button closure on the sides of the waist to adjust the waistband. Elvis had a number of bolero jackets for the film, they came in black, yellow, blue and the red one offered here –which was worn in numerous publicity stills. Seldom does a complete movie worn outfit come to market. Elvis loves the movie-style of outfits and he took all of them home with him after finishing a film. A photo of Elvis wearing the yellow version of the bolero jacket in front of his piano in the music room at Graceland accompanies this lot. Also with this lot is several color photos of Elvis wearing the red bolero jacket, black shirt and black pants. Elvis wore this outfit for many months after the film ended and eventually gave the entire outfit to his close friend and “Memphis Mafia” member Alan Fortas who was an extra in “Viva Las Vegas.” Comes with letter of provenance from Alan Fortas and color photos of Elvis wearing the outfit. Very good condition.
