Elvis Presley wore this white cotton long sleeved doctor’s coat in his final feature film, “Change of Habit,” released in November 1969, co-starring Mary Tyler Moore.. Elvis played the role of Dr. John Carpenter, a doctor from Shelby, Tennessee who runs a free clinic. Elvis enjoyed the role, knowing it was going to be his last feature film for some time as he had just signed with the International Hotel to begin performing live in the summer of 1969 (during filmmaking Elvis was actively engaged in selecting material for his upcoming stage act). Elvis even took the suggestion of the director William Graham to have his hair restyled for the role, resulting in Elvis looking "striking" in his final feature film role as the young urban doctor. One interesting fact is that after the film wrapped, Elvis chose his character’s name as one of his favorite aliases when making reservations for hotel and airlines. It became one of his favorite pseudonyms since playing the role and when he traveled to Washington D.C. later in 1970 for the famous meeting with President Richard Nixon he used the name “John Carpenter” for the American Airlines reservation. The doctor's coat is bears the Universal Studio label with Elvis' name written on it. Elvis kept this coat after production ended on the film. The jacket is accompanied by numerous photographs of Elvis wearing it as well as a letter of provenance from his close friend Charlie Hodge who was an extra in the film. Very good condition.
