Incredibly rare original 11" x 14" cardboard boxing style poster for concert in Portland, Oregon on September 2nd, 1957. Elvis played this last show of his short west coast tour which began on August 30th in Spokane and continued through Vancouver, Takoma and Seattle. Shortly after the tour, he returned to Radio Recorders in Hollywood to record songs for his upcoming Christmas Album. The concert was as raucous as many during that year, as Elvis was very famous by this time and fans often tended to rush the stage to get a better view of Elvis, who was wearing his Gold Nudie-designed jacket. At this show, it turned into a near-riot. This fantastic-looking poster shows a photo of Elvis in costume from his "Loving You" film. Elvis concert posters from the 50s are extremely rare and very few actually have Elvis's picture. This poster comes from a Northwest radio DJ's wife who actually attended the concert and saved it for over 50 years! To date, we have been only able to confirm this ONE SURVIVING EXAMPLE of this historic poster! There is a union logo in small print at the bottom which indicates it was printed by Allied Printing in Portland. The back of the poster has some tears from where it was stuck to a wall and there are some tape marks on the front at the top and bottom (center). There is also a tear near the tape residue at the top. Three of the four corners have some writing and there are some minor creases. It is important to note that none of these issues affect any of the printing or the photo. Overall, this poster has survived in excellent condition! Most of the Elvis concert posters that have sold in this price range over the last few years have not been this nice (in condition and graphics). Guaranteed 100% authentic!. Here's is former KRTH disc jockey Brian Beirne's account of this concert which he attended. "I was nearing my 11th birthday when I went to the Labor Day show at Multnomah Stadium. The stadium was used as a baseball park for the Portland Beavers, a minor league team for the Cleveland Indians. My mother and I had driven from Salem to Portland. When we got there the show was sold out...my mother drove around to the right field side of the stadium and talked some policeman into letting me watch the show. She may have bribed him for all I know. My mother sat in the car and he found me a place. I looked around and realized I may be the only boy in the stadium! I remember the when the fans poured out of the stands and being scared with all these screaming girls jumping over me trying to head out to the field. Boy what a night!" Comes with a Gotta Have Rock & Roll™ Certificate of Authenticity.
