Dolley Madison handwritten Signed Letter

Dolley Madison (aka Dolly Madison) handwritten signed letter on a page of stationery watermarked “PARIS.” First lady and wife of President James Madison (1809-1817), in her letter dated “Washington July 7, 1848,” Madison begins her letter, “I salute you my dear Jennie with thanks…for the sweet flowers you had the goodness to send me from your far distant home…” Madison signs her letter “D P Madison.” During her time as First lady, Madison helped furnish the newly constructed White House after the fire set by the British in 1814 and was noted for holding Washington social functions in which she invited members of both parties.

Condition: Light corner remnants of scrapbook removal on verso. Good
