Offered here is an incredible piece of history, the actual RCA UNB Type 77 DX microphone used by Buddy Holly, Roy Orbison, and other artists in Norman Petty’s Studios in 1954-1960's to record various hit songs, including “Peggy Sue” and “That’ll Be The Day”. The microphone is a Type RCA UNB Type 77 DX the bracket has stamped MODEL 307 Electro Voice Made in the USA. The microphone was given to Larry Cohen, a veteran in the music industry by Norman Petty. In Larry's own words- “This microphone was given to me personally by Norman Petty in 1978. Norman Petty was a very close friend to my mentor at the time. The viewing of The Buddy Holly Story was coming up and Norman was on his way to Los Angeles to critique the film. He went to visit my friend/mentor Jay West in San Bernardino California. I was invited to meet Norman Petty during their meeting. In the meeting, Petty brought the microphone and determined it was too thrashed to repair, so Norman said he was going to toss it. I then asked if I could have it as a prop. Norman Petty explained to me the history of the microphone, that Buddy Holly used this microphone for recording his vocals for all the songs he recorded in the studio, Norman then handed me the microphone. I have held on to it since 1978. Norman was disappointed at the Buddy Holly Story film”. Cohen also confirmed that the microphone was part of the Norman Petty Studios in Clovis, New Mexico. An incredibly rare opportunity to buy a piece of Buddy Holly history. Comes with a Letter of Provenance from Larry Cohen and a Gotta Have Rock and Roll Certificate of Authenticity.
