Buddy Holly Signed Original Publicity Picture.
Buddy Holly has signed this publicity picture, most likely originally from a PR packet, in blue ballpoint pen. This black and white picture is printed on paper and names Buddy Holly as the leader of The Crickets. On the verso is two photo pictures of Buddy Holly and the Crickets (Jerry Allison and Joe Maudlin).
Buddy Holly and The Crickets were an American rock and roll band from Lubbock, Texas, formed by singer-songwriter Buddy Holly in January 1957. Their first hit record, "That'll Be the Day", released in May 1957, peaked at number three on the Billboard Top 100 chart on September 16, 1957. It wasThe Crickets that helped set the template for subsequent rock bands, such as the Beatles, with their guitar-bass-drums line-up, performing their own material. Buddy Holly is one of the most beloved performers in rock history. He tragically died in a plane crash along with other music greats Ritchie Valens, J.P. Richardson (The Big Bopper), as well as the pilot Roger Peterson. The crushing death of these music greats was memorialized by Don McLean in his hit song "American Pie"as "the day the music died."
