Bruce Springsteen Original Working Handwritten “Born to Run” Lyrics.
Offered here is a single sheet of lined notebook paper on which Bruce Springsteen has handwritten the lyrics for a song titled "Glory Road" in blue ink.
This song appears on various tracklist draft documents leading up to the production of Springsteen's third studio album, Born to Run (Columbia, 1975). Initially, "Glory Road" was to close out Side One of the record (with "She's the One" as an alternate choice), and elsewhere it was listed as an alternate for "Born to Run." Ultimately, however, the song was not included on the album, and did not appear on any future Springsteen albums. The lyrics share some thematic similarities with two other Springsteen songs that would end up on Born to Run: "Thunder Road" and the titular "Born to Run," which open Side One and Side Two respectively. It is possible Springsteen absorbed the ideas from "Glory Road" into one or both of these songs, or simply let it go entirely because of those similarities. Though it is not known to have been recorded or performed, "Glory Road" therefore provides a tantalizing peek into Springsteen's creative process leading up to the production and release of one of his most influential and well-loved albums.
