A sheet of notepaper from The Atlantic Lumber Company in Boston, Massachusetts, with handwritten lyrics and chord annotations written in pencil by Bob Dylan for his 1969 song "Lay Lady Lay."
Dylan has numbered each verse from one through three. The lyrics appear to be working lyrics as some of them do not in the final version of the song, such as: "Got my night light shining... got the heartbreaking blues and they're all for you" in verse three. The hit song has since been covered by numerous bands including The Byrds, The Everly Brothers, Duran Duran, Ministry, and many others.
”Lay, Lady, Lay” is first featured in Bob Dylan’s hit album “Nashville Skyline”. Considered to be a staple in Dylan’s musical career, owning the original handwritten lyrics to this song would make for the “holy grail” of Bob Dylan items
