Offered here is Billie Holiday's personally owned and used beautiful silver cigarette case that is engraved "Billie 1948" on the front. Billie gave this engraved silver cigarette case to James Brown. James Brown was an important client and friend to Irwin Pate, one of the most well-renowned booking and promotional agents in the entertainment business for over four decades. Irwin's biggest client was James Brown, who he formed a very close and intimate friendship with as well.
Provenance: This Billie Holiday cigarette case comes directly from the private collection of Irwin Pate and his wife Clarine. Over his long career, Irwin, along with his wife Clarine, amassed a truly impressive collection of clothing and other articles from the entertainers he worked with and came into contact with, sometimes directly and sometimes indirectly from the performance venues. According to the detailed letter from Clarine Pate that accompanied this lt, this Billie Holiday cigarette case was given to Irwin by James Brown. Billie had given it to Brown back at the beginning of his career. After Brown gave it to Pate it remained in the Pate's personal collection up to this time.
