Billie Holiday Handwritten & Signed Note - Signed to Nat Hentoff.
Offered here is an incredible handwritten & signed note of Billie Holiday, done with a ballpoint pen.
The other sides are filled with notes from the Dufty family to Nat Hentoff. While the note card is undated, the contents indicate it was written shortly after the 1956 publication of Holiday’s autobiography “Lady Sings The Blues.” The Dufty family note refers to news that Leonard Feather had been assigned to write a review of the book for “the Post,” which implies that the review had not been published at the time the notes were written.
A year later, in 1957, Hentoff would co-produce Holiday’s performance in the iconic episode of the CBS television series The Seven Lively Arts and was one of the first major programs featuring jazz to air on American network television.
Nathan Irving Hentoff was an American historian, novelist, jazz and country music critic, and syndicated columnist for United Media. Hentoff was a columnist for The Village Voice from 1958 to 2009.
