Basil Rathbone Handwritten & Signed Photograph and Handwritten Shakespeare Quote.
From the pen of the great classical actor Basil Rathbone, offered here are a black and white photograph that has been boldly and beautifully signed and inscribed on the verso by Rathbone, with his facsimile signature on the front.This signed and inscribed photograph is accompanied by his handwritten version of one of William Shakespeare's greatest quotes, from the play "The Tempest" on a separate piece of grey paper. The quote is also beautifully handwritten. Both are written in black fountain pen.
Rathbone, born in South Africa, rose to prominence in the United Kingdom as a Shakespearean stage actor and went on to appear in more than 70 films, primarily costume dramas, swashbucklers, and, occasionally, horror films. His most famous role was that of Sherlock Holmes in fourteen Hollywood films made between 1939 and 1946 and in a radio series. His later career included roles on Broadway, as well as self-ironic film and television work. In 1948, he shared the Tony Award for Best Actor in a Play with two others. He was also nominated for two Academy Awards and was honoured with three stars on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
Early in his career he played various Shakespearean roles, including that of Ferdinance in The Tempest, thus the importance of this particular handwritten quote (although is is the lead character Prospero's words.
Dimensions:The twice -sicned photograh measures 3.5 in x 5 in and the notepaper with the quote measures 4 in x 6 in.
Condition: Very good, the notepaper has some light discoloration that does not affect the beautifully handwritten quote.
