Three signed letters from American author, publisher and anthologist August Derleth, who was the first book publisher of well known weird, science, fantasy and horror fiction writer H.P. Lovecraft. Derleth himself was prolific in many genres, including cosmic horror, poetry, detective fiction, science fiction, historical fiction and biography and he helped found the publisher Arkham House which brought hardcover supernatural print into the United States. Two of his letters are typed on “Hawk & Whippoorwill” letterhead, one dated October 19, 1960 (a poetry publishing endeavor that he published and edited). The third letter dated October 14, 1961 is made on his personal stationery.
