One of the first scientific breakthroughs of the late 19th century to begin appearing in nearly every household into the early 20th century was the telephone. This antique oak crank phone made by Western Electric was the first style to gain wide use, with surviving examples enjoyed by collectors and decorators alike for their nostalgic value and appeal. This vintage crank telephone measures about 21 X 10 X 10. Most of the apparatus on the outside is original including the desirable Western Electric decal on the outside, while the front opens to reveal the intricate detail inside with this example having been retrofitted with a rotary dial apparatus to extend its’ useful service life as technological advancements continued throughout the 20th Century. Presently, as cellphones replace even the most modern home phone sets with more and more households giving up their landline altogether, antique telephones such as this become the only reminder of the device that launched an entire communication industry. Very good condition. Comes with a Gotta Have Rock & Roll™ Certificate of Authenticity.
