Anfernee “Penny” Hardaway entered the 1993 NBA Draft following his junior season at the University of Memphis where he averaged 22.8 points, 8.5 boards and 6.5 assists per game. He was selected by the upstart Orlando Magic with the No. 3 overall pick and immediately found himself joining forces with second-year center Shaquille O’Neal. The Shaq/Penny experiment went well as the Magic improved to 50-32 in their first season together – nine more wins than the year before – and during this 1994-95 season improving to 57-25 and a trip to the NBA Finals, becoming the second fastest NBA team to do so. Hardaway earned his first ever start in an NBA All-Star game this season as well. Offered here is Hardaway’s game-used Magic rookie home jersey from this 1994-95 season.
The home white mesh jersey, complete with black pinstripes and black-and-blue trim adorning the collar and arm openings, reads “Magic” screened across the front in blue outlined in black with a pair of sparkling silver stars adding emphasis and design. The embroidered NBA logo is found on the top left chest area and Penny’s uniform number “1” is front and center in black tackle twill outlined in blue. Champion manufacturer’s tags reside on the left front tail indicating size ("46"), season ("94-95"), body length ("+3"), and exclusivity. The back shows “HARDAWAY” sewn in blue tackle twill with his uniform number “1” in black tackle twill outlined in blue.
This jersey is properly tagged, was presented to us as game-used and in our opinion shows appropriate use.
Hardaway completed 15 NBA seasons and finished his professional career after averaging 15.2 points and five rebounds per game. Since 2018, Hardaway has been coaching his alma mater and led Memphis to an American Athletic Conference championship and a berth in the 2023 NCAA Tournament.
