A group of five autographed 1978 New York Yankees photographs each picturing a collage of players from this infamous 1978 World Championship New York Yankees team. Twenty eight members have signed including legendary Yankees catcher Thurman Munson, New York Yankees owner George Steinbrenner, Yankees skipper Manager Billy Martin, and famed Coaches - Yogi Berra, Art Fowler, Elston Howard and Dick Howser. Other players signed include: Cliff Johnson, Sparky Lyle, Graig Nettles, Lou Piniella, Ed Figueroa, Rich Gossage, Ron Guidry, Fran Healy, Jim Catfish Hunter, Reggie Jackson, Gene Michael, Jim Beattie, Paul Blair, Chris Chambliss, Ken Clay, Willie Randolph, Mickey Rivers, Jim Spencer, Dick Tidrow, Roy White and the hero of the 1978 season, Bucky Dent. The Yankees finished the regular season ties with the Boston Red Sox leading to a one-game playoff for the American League East title. The Yankees defeated the Red Sox due to the heroics of Bucky Dent hitting the least likely walk-off three-run homerun in the seventh inning to give the Yankees the lead. The Yankees would go on to defeat the Kansas City Royals for the American League Championship and the Los Angeles Dodgers for the World Championship. Bucky Dent was honored by being voted the MVP of the 1978 World Series. The 1978 Yankees are also remembered for the tumult between Billy Martin and Reggie Jackson. Of course the key signature of this collection is Thurman Munson whose career was tragically cut short one year later when he perished in an aviation accident. A rare ensemble for even the most advanced Yankees fan.
The overall condition of the photographs are fair and display various defects and tape repair. the signatures are signed in different writing instruments and while Munson appears among the mostly strong signatures, a few are legibly light. 10 X 8.
