This Andy Warhol screen print was a gift to John Lennon sometime shortly after the Beatles final show on the Apple rooftop, Jan 30th, 1969, there is a reference to this final show within the body of the work, the title “Watching Rainbows” is a reference to an unreleased Beatle recording of the same name from Jan 14th 1969, just over two weeks prior to the rooftop show. The subject matter shows John in 1967, standing outside his home ‘Kenwood’ before driving a short distance to ‘Sunny Heights’ which was Ringo’s home, there was to be an official Beatle photoshoot that day, many images exist from that day.

The screen print shows four John’s, three Yoko’s and two Ray Dagg’s, Ray, is the police officer responsible for officially closing down the Beatles rooftop show just a few months prior to John receiving this gift, these screen pressed images were Andy’s reference to the frequency ‘432’ rather than the standard 440 tuning frequency, the frequency of 432 was widely experimented with at this time.

Ultimately, John changed his opinion about this piece feeling that his 1967 attire in the images, was not he now was, and that he had moved on from the Sgt. Pepper days, having met Yoko too, this piece was abandoned by John at Tittenhurst Park in 1971 when he departed for the USA never to return.

Dimensions: 23.5 in x 37 in.

Condition: Good/Fair: the screen print has vintage wear including a tears.
